Obituary

Pontotoc Co.-Frances “Jo” Norred, 89, transformed to her heavenly reward, Wednesday, August 8, 2018, from Pontotoc Health and Rehab after an lingering illness. Jo was born in Jefferson Co., Ala. on May 2, 1929, to the late Edward Robert Wells and Lillie Seagle Wells. She was a lifelong resident of Jefferson Co., Ala. until the death of her husband, Clarence, on Aug. 26, 1986. She moved to Pontotoc County to be with her daughter, Vicki and son in law, Jim Varnon. Until her retirement, she was an assistant teacher at the South Pontotoc Elementary School. A member of the Thaxton Baptist Church since l986, she was a faithful attendee and a longtime Sunday school teacher. Jo enjoyed her family supremely especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren who affectionately called her “Jo Jo”. Jo was a lifelong staunch supporter of the Girl Scouts and was a Troop leader for many years. She enjoyed sewing and smocking for family and friends, working in her flowers and sharing her kind and compassionate heart with all she could.
A service celebrating her life will be held at 5 PM today (8/10/18) with her son in law, Bro. Jim Varnon, her grandson, Bro. Justin Varnon and her nephew, Bro. Bryant Rothe officiating. Her grandson, Jason Varnon will sing. Visitation will be from 3 PM-service time today at Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo Chapel, which is honored to be serving their friends.
Jo leaves to share memories of her life, her daughter and primary caregiver, Vicki Varnon and her husband, Jim of Belden; her son, Marty Norred and his wife, Bonnie of McCalla, Ala.; her 3 grandchildren, Kaci Norred of McCalla, Jason Varnon (Shelly) of Ecru, Bro. Justin Varnon (Cassandra) of the Woodland Community in Pontotoc Co, 5 great grandchildren, Keaton, Kaily, Kinslee, Preston and Ella. Her family from Pontotoc Health and Rehab, numerous nieces and nephews. She was the last of 8 children born to Ed and Lillie. Seven siblings preceded her in death as well as her parents.
