Richard Donegan



Tupelo-Richard Wayne Donegan, 68, U.S. Air Force Reserves, Retd., transformed to the life hereafter on Tuesday evening, April 17, 2018 from the Hospice Unit at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo after a lingering illness. Born in Hattiesburg, Forrest County, Miss. on January 15, 1950, Richard grew up there and attended Hattiesburg High School where he excelled in athletics at all levels. He subsequently attended the University of Southern Mississippi where he played quarterback for the Golden Eagles. IN l970, his team defeated the Ole Miss Rebels in Oxford under the leadership of fabled quarterback, Archie Manning- one of the Rebels few losses that year. He was eventually inducted into the University of Southern Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame. A patriotic American, Richard joined the U. S. Air Force and retired after 23 years service, with the last years spent with the Miss. Air National Guard based out of G.V. Montgomery Air Base in Meridian. He moved with his family to the Tupelo area in l975 and recently retired after 30 years as Manufacturing Production Supervisor with Daybrite/Philips Lighting in Tupelo. A sports enthusiast and lover of the outdoors, Richard was an avid golfer and a “pretty solid’ pool shark. Richard enjoyed his family particularly his grandchildren. He enjoyed life and cut a wide path in 68 years.

A service celebrating his life will be held at 1 PM Saturday, April 21, 2018 in the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with family friend, Bro. Bubba Kennedy officiating. Visitation will from Noon-service time Saturday only at the Tupelo Chapel. A reception will follow in the funeral home event center. Holland Funeral Directors s honored to be serving their friends.

Richard leaves his family which includes 3 sons, Sean Donegan (Emily) of Guntown; Chris Donegan (Ursula) of Tupelo and Rick Donegan (Donna) of D’Iberville, MS. his grandchildren, Marley, Nicholas, Spencer, Gabrielle, Lucas, Micah and Mia. 2 sisters, Peggy chapman of Hattesburg and Debbie Hartfield (Allen) of Oxford, MS. and a brother, Ronnie Donegan (Mary) of Gulfport. His former wives, Debbie Britt Simpson of Hattiesburg and Constance Fountain Dean of Columbus. Nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
