Tupelo-Jon Steven Hickman, 56, died suddenly Monday, August 1, 2017 as the result of an automobile accident on the Natchez Trace Parkway. Steve was born in New Orleans, LA. on January 7, 1961. Shortly thereafter, he was adopted by his mom and dad, the late Dr. William L. Hickman and Betty Stotts Hickman. In the last few years after a lifelong search, Steve had the pleasure of meeting and reuniting with his birth parents and biological family in Louisiana, an occasion of great joy for he and them. A 1979 graduate of Tupelo High School, he attended Itawamba Junior College, graduating as a Registered Nurse. He was currently employed by Trace Regional Medical Center in Houston. His lifelong love of nursing was evident by the many patients who loved him and respected his professionalism. He especially enjoyed his pediatric nursing. Steve loved hunting, fishing, singing, cooking, great conversation and all things Mississippi State. He enjoyed watching his sons grow up and was active in their sporting activities. But, Poppa’s great joy was his four grandchildren who brought him untold joy. A longtime active member of West Jackson St. Baptist Church and its choir and pageants, he and his family were members of Hope Church at his death. Steve touched many lives and will be sorely missed by all.
A life celebration will be held at 11 AM Friday, August 4, 2017 at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with his pastor, Scooter Noland and Dr. Brian Eads officiating. Steve was a great guy. We attended Northease and Ole Miss together, hanging out with the same crowd. He was always the life of the party, letting himself be heard. Have great memories of him.
He had an angelic voice leaving you wanted to hear more every time. We were fortunate to sing in college together.
Melanie, he fell for you hard when you started dating. He didn't want others to know how much he adored you, trying to play the "cool" male card, but we knew. Later when we would meet, he proudly talked about Melanie and his children.
He was loved by all that knew him. Heaven has gained an angel and Steve has earned his wings. May you find peace in your heart when you think of him and his beautiful smile.
