Tupelo-Helen Tindall Wood Gardner, 80, won the eternal victory at 10:30 PM Sunday, June 17, 2018 from Diversicare on Eason Blvd. in Tupelo after a time of declining health. Born in Itawamba County on January 19, l938 to the late Tristen and Nova Lee Tindall Wood, she grew up there and married Lane Boyd Gardner in l957 after graduating from Belden High School. Boyd died in l997. Helen was employed as a secretary for Roper Toyota for over 20 years. She worked the remainder of her working career for LIFE, Inc., serving those with disabilities lead purposeful, productive lives. She was a longtime member of Oak Ridge Christian Church and, at her death, was a member of Verona Christian Church. Helen loved people, had a contagious laugh and was a delightful, gentle soul. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, collecting dolls, good conversation and was loved by many.
A service celebrating her life will be held at 11 AM Thursday, June 21, 2018 at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Dale Carr officiating. Private burial will follow in Lee Memorial Park. Visitation will be Thursday only from 10 AM-service time. Helen leaves her only son, David Gardner and his wife, Charlotte of Tupelo; 2 grandchildren, Jarrod Gardner and his wife Olivia of Charlotte, North Carolina, Jeremy Gardner and his wife, Abby of Shannon. Her first great grandchild, a son, is on the way!! 2 sisters, Arvie Roper of Belden and Rita Vinson of Clinton. 1 brother, Andy Wood of Shannon. a sister in law, Martha Wood of Plantersville and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and brothers,, Royce Wood (Mavis), Paul Wood and Marvin Wood (Ruth) and sister, Vama Wade (Dexter); brothers-n-law, Billy Roper and Charley Vinson..
