Danny Wayne Burgett



Amory-Danny Wayne Burgett, 63, died Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018 at his residence in Amory after a long struggle with diabetes. Danny was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin to the late Alvin Douglas Burgett and Betty Ann Martin Burgett Christian. A l974 graduate of Shannon High School, he lived most all his life in Lee and Monroe Counties. Danny was a master butcher. At a very young age, he began his association with Mr. Herman Page at Pages Supermarket. He went on to work for the successor to Pages, Jitney Jungle, where he rose to the position of manager of the Meat Department. Diabetes rendered him disabled over 20 years ago. He spent the remainder of his life enjoying his family and many friends. An avid southern storyteller, Danny was a jokester who could always get one up on most anyone. He greatly enjoyed fishing and revered the Miss. State Bulldogs. He was a former deacon at Wildwood Baptist Church in Amory.
A service celebrating his life will be held at 7 PM Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Chuck Moffett officiating. Visitation will be from 5 PM-service time Tuesday at Holland-Tupelo Chapel, which is honored to be serving their friends.
Danny leaves his two children, Christopher “Chris” Burgett and wife Stacey of Tupelo and Stacey Rooks and her husband, Jon of Amory. His grandchildren, Lauren Burgett, Amara Rogers, Anabelle Rooks, Parker Rooks and Jack Rooks and Katia “Butterbean” Gates. His longtime companion and caregiver, Martha Pate Holland of Amory and her children, Karen and Michael. His mother, Betty Ann Christian (Don) of Tupelo. His siblings, Aaron Burgett (Donna) of Destin, Fla., Greg (Cheryl) Burgett of Saltillo and David Burgett (Debra) of Tupelo. Several nieces and nephews and a host of good friends.
