Plantersville-Edgar Clark “Eddie” Philpot, Jr, was born Feb. 15, 1957 in Tupelo to Jean and Edgar Philpot and crossed the chilling waters of Jordan and reunited with his Mama and Daddy at 4:15 am Saturday, March 3, 2018 from complications of a “widow-maker” heart attack on Friday morning. One of the great joyful, life -loving souls to journey these parts, Eddie had a big heart and a big laugh. His contagious personality was “caught” by thousands of friends everywhere who loved him as their own family, laughed at his jokes, unconditionally supported him whatever the “hair brained” idea he might come up with on that day and otherwise, were loyal to a fault. Eddie returned that loyalty and mastered better than most the biblical admonition to love God and your neighbor as yourself. Unique in every way, Eddie enjoyed life, was mostly self- employed at everything from carpentry to making furniture to owning “Uncle Eddie’s” Eatery and hangout in Nettleton-a major legacy of his. At the time of his unexpected death, he was a beloved Lee County School Bus Driver and was employed by Family Resource Center stationed at ICC-Tupelo where he was an Information Resource Coordinator. A splendid football player at Shannon High School, he graduated in l975 and attempted, actually tempted, the academic team at Itawamba Community College briefly. A consummate “Hotty Toddy” man, Eddie revered his Ole Miss Rebels and the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. Eddie’s faith was strong and he always appreciated his teachings at First Baptist-Plantersville and later at Brewer United Methodist Church. Eddie found wonder and joy in the simple things and approached life with the gusto of a hound dog. He was generous beyond measure and beloved by all.
A service celebrating his life will be at HIGH NOON Monday, March 5, 2018 at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Donald Pounders and Bro. Bobby Holland officiating. Joe Collins, Ricky Wages and Bill Benson will reflect on his stellar life. Burial will follow in the Philpot family plot at Plantersville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 PM-7 PM today and from 10 AM-service time Monday all at Holland Funeral Directors, which is honored to be serving their dear friends.
Eddie leaves behind his two sisters, Tonya Reese (Larry) of Plantersville and Judy May (Ray) of Booneville; 1 niece, Missy Hall (Robbie) and three nephews, Barry Parker (Jennifer), Scott May and Luke May (Marlee). 9 great nieces and nephews. Two step children, Seth Copeland (Brandie) and Katie Copeland (Dancy) and 8 stepgrandchildren. Eddie was preceded in death by his Mother, Jean Jone Philpot and his dad, Edgar Philpot, one brother in law, Tommy May and one nephew, Todd May and his grandmother, Odelle Philpot.

Eddie was such an awesome guy. He was always himself no matter where he was or who he was around. I have so many great memories of he and my daddy. Eddie had such a great laugh and was infectious when you were around him. he loved his family and his friends and would do anything for them. I am praying for his family, as I know they are heartbroken. I am hoping he is heaven with my dad and they are playing a round of golf and Eddie is calming my daddy down when he doesn't play well. Tonya, Larry, Judy, Barry, Tommy and family, I can tell from the heart felt obituary that Eddie was one that loved his family and friends, and that love was returned in kind. As you face the difficult days ahead may you find comfort in your faith in God and love of family and friends. Sorry that I did not get to visit with you at this sad time. I know the touch of a friend means much. You and yours are in my prayers.
Thinking of you .

Sorry for your loss, death affects us all, but the Bible offers hope at John 5:28,29, says there is going to be a resurrection of the righteous and unrighteous, certainly we look forward to that day.
