Kathleen Stokes McCarty



Sherman-Kathleen Stokes McCarty, 88 went to be with Jesus in the early morning hours of Saturday, February 3, 2018 at the North Miss. Medical Center. Born in Pontotoc Co. on April 26, 1929 as the only child of James Warren Stokes and Opal Whitlow Stokes, she lived all her life in the Sherman area. A master seamstress, Mrs. McCarty worked many years at Joyner-Fields Shirt Factory in Sherman, before retiring. She was a longtime member of Sherman Baptist Church, a bible believing Christian and a strong prayer warrior. Mrs. Kathleen was a gentle soul who always encouraged others seeing only the good in them. She loved her family, enjoyed cooking for them and her friends and was a specialty at fried chicken. She will be missed by her family and many friends.
A service celebrating her life will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at the Sherman Baptist Church with Bro. David Westmoreland and Bro. Greg Thomas officiating. Private burial will follow in the McCarty family plot at Sherman Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 PM-8PM Monday, 2/5/17, at Holland Funeral Directors, Tupelo Chapel and from 10 AM-service time Tuesday at Sherman Baptist Church.
Mrs. McCarty leaves her grateful family, sons, Robert Dillard (Josephine), David McCarty (Ruby) and Mike McCarty (Teenie) all of Tupelo. Daughter, Kathy Kelly (Ronnie) of Tupelo. 5 grandchildren, Kyle McCarty (special friend, Shauna), Brian McCarty (fiancé, Molly), Jason McCarty (Kalah), Amanda Kelly and Kristina Browning (Clay). 5 great grandchildren, Braden, Leslie, Levi, Savannah, Karson, and one on the way, Wesley. A special friend and caregiver, Ann Brown. A host of friends and other near relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents and her late husband, Paul McCarty.
Pallbearers will be Kyle, Brian, Jason and Braden McCarty, Clay Browning, Ronnie Kelly and Bobby Brooks.
