Obituary

Okolona – Mr. Robert Dale Smith, 65, passed in his sleep, Thursday night, December 28, 2017 at his residence. He was born September 21, 1952 in Okolona, MS to Robert Priest Smith and Martha Nell Earnest Smith. He was a graduate of Okolona High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam war, stationed in Korea. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and Sharpshooter badge. After leaving the service, he became a truck driver, employed by H & H Trucking Company, he also worked for the Corley Farms and the Hayes Brothers Farm. He was a skilled welder and heavy machinery operator, and was always willing to help others. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the great outdoors. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends, family, and his beloved dogs, Sweet Pea and Pretty Girl.
A parlor service will be held at 11:30 a.m. today at Holland Funeral Directors, Tupelo Chapel. Condolences to the family may be e-mailed to hollandfuneraldirectors@comcast.net.

He is survived by two daughters, Lesia Ervin (Gary) of Starkville and Teresa Brewer (Donald) of Hatley; sister, Brenda List (Phil); 5 grandchildren, Austin Reed (Tiffany), Lee Bryant, Aubrey Reed, Meagan Reed, and Chandler Bryant; 3 step-grandchildren, John Brewer (Emily), Sheldon Brewer, Garrett Ervin; 2 step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Garland Lane Smith.
