Clytee Hansberger

Tupelo-Clytee Smith Hansberger passed away after the long goodbye of Alzheimer’s on October 5th 2017 at NMMC in Tupelo MS. She was 78. Clytee was a resident of the Page Greenhouse in Tupelo MS and formerly of Pontotoc MS. It was in Pontotoc where she and the love of her life, William Lyle Hansberger, created a world filled with devotion, happiness and family. She was his “Tee Bird” and he was her “Shuga” in a marriage which the best of legendary romances could envy. Their family was blessed by the shining of this love-steadfastly and abundantly.

Clytee was born on December 15, 1938 to the late Robert Lee Smith and Ruby Clytee Nichols Smith of Belmont MS. She was a retired business owner, exceptional cook, gracious entertainer, and ran the Hansberger Hilton, as their home was often called, with southern hospitality, humor, numerous rocking chairs and love. Clytee was known for her zest for fashion, her passion for rescuing cats, long lasting friendships, antique shopping, and most of all for the devotion to her husband and family. Everyone she met felt the light of her personality. Her proudest role was being “Nana” for she made being a grandmother an art form. She was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church in Tupelo MS and enjoyed the services and fellowship of her church home until the darkness of her disease overcame her.
She is survived by children, Lisa Clytee Hansberger (David McBrayer) of Tupelo, Jerry Hansberger ( Debbie ) of Barrington IL, Tom Hansberger of Pontotoc and Patricia Rivera (Julio) of Pelham AL.: her grandchildren, Melissa Ratliff (Todd Sorrell) of Tupelo, Brent Ratliff ( Liz) of Denver Co, Carrie Anderson of Tupelo, Jeffery Hansberger( Karen) of Huntsville AL, Mark Hansberger ( Katy ) of Washington DC, Lisa Hansberger of Tinley Park IL, Todd Hansberger (Renee) of Downingtown PA, Cristina Rivera, of Los Angeles, CA, Alexander Rivera, of Pelham AL. and 9 great grandchildren soon to be 10.
Clytee is also survived by her siblings, Mary Carolyn Osborn (Cliff) of Gadson AL, William (Willie) Mason Smith (JoAnne) of Belmont MS, her much loved nieces, nephews and their extended families, numerous relatives, and her treasured lifelong friends. In addition to her husband, William Lyle Hansberger, she was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Joey and a daughter Susan Renee Hansberger.
