Jimmie Lou Chism Hester



Pontocola-Jimmie Lou Chism Hester, 78, went to be with her Savior on Sunday, August 6, 2017 after becoming suddenly ill. Jimmie Lou, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister, was born in Itawamba Co., Miss. on December 9, 1938, one of 9 siblings born to James M. and Roxie Hood Chism. She married her husband of 58 years, Clinton Hester in Tupelo on Sept. 5, l958. They were the parents of 4 children and one of Jimmie Lou’s great loves was taking care of them and their children. She retired in 2004 after many years as a worker in the lunchroom at Shannon High School. She not only cared for her own but was the caregiver of her in laws until their deaths. Jimmie Lou enjoyed cooking, animals especially her dogs and playing dominoes. She was a faithful member of the Palmetto Baptist Church.

Jimmie Lou will be remembered at a service to be held at 11 AM Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with her pastor, Bro. Jimmy Webb, officiating, assisted by Bro. Don Shaffer. Burial will follow in the Upper Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Pontotoc Co. Visitation will be from 5 PM-7 PM today (Tue) at Holland-Tupelo Chapel, which is honored to be serving their friends.

Survivors include her husband, Clinton Hester of Pontocola. 3 daughters, Lisa Roberts (Mike) of Booneville, Deana Patrick (Alan) of Guntown and Mary Patton (Anthony) of East Tupelo. a son, Joseph Hester (Carolyn) of Shannon. 9 grandchildren, Melanie Floyd, Greg White (Christie), Savannah, Ciara and Miranda Hester, Amy Giorgenti (Nick), Lauren Patton, Kristen Lewis (Thad) and Trece Gonzalez. 8 great grandchildren, Makenzie, Landon, Isabelle, Arianna, Brianna, Kadyn, Kane and Baxter. 2 sisters, Patsy Washington (Wayne) and Peggy Hayes all of Tupelo. numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Bert, James, Noonan and Bill Chism and her sisters, Bell Umpress and Mary Alice Lyles.
