Junior Elton Potts



Pontotoc – Mr. Junior Elton Potts, 86, died Sunday, August 6, 2017 at NMMC Pontotoc Nursing Home. He was born February 2, 1931 in Dunnville, Kentucky to Bernell Elton Potts and Grace Withers Potts. He was a patriotic man who proudly served in the U.S. Navy, aboard the U.S.S. Curtiss, U.S.S. Bairoko, and U.S.S. Oriskany during the Korean Conflict. Upon returning home from military service, he married the love of his life, Pauline Mounce on January 19, 1957 in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. They traveled to various parts of the U.S. where he worked as a painter. He enjoyed telling about painting the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas, NV. His last job was working as a painter in the oil industry for Loop, Inc. in Louisiana. He was passionate about fishing, gardening, flowers, animals, going to flea-markets, and singing. Junior was a devoted husband to his late wife, a wonderful father, grandfather, and brother. He was of the Baptist faith.

A celebration of life service with military honors will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 10, 2017 in the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors. A graveside service will follow at Longview Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to service time. Survivors include his five sons, Charles Spurr, Sr. and Ricky Spurr, Sr. (Paulette), all of Pontotoc, Danny Spurr, Sr. of Verona, Mark E. Potts, Sr. (Melisa) of Galliano, LA, and Jimmy Potts of Ohio; his only daughter, Sonja Gardner of Pontotoc; one sister, Elsie Leppert of Ohio; 21 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, a special niece, Renee Statton, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other dear relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, his late wife, 5 siblings, 1 great-grandson, James Mannen Lincks, and 2 great-granddaughters, twins – Emma and Sophie Potts.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Charles Spurr, Jr., Ricky Spurr, Jr., Danny Paul Spurr, Jr., Cochise Lincks, Sequoyah Lincks, Hank Spurr, and Mark Potts, Jr.
