Plantersville- Milliage Reed Morgan Harris passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at North MS Medical Center Hospice Unit, after a long and good life as a wife, mother, merchant, grandmother and great grandmother. She was 98. Born July 19, 1919, the daughter of Fred and Gladys Whitehead Morgan of Plantersville, she was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Roy Harris in November, 2000, her parents and a brother, J. Marlin Morgan. She is survived by her sons, Roy Jr. and Ronny, 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
After marrying, she moved to Tupelo in 1941, and settled in the Willis Heights area. They joined the upstart Harrisburg Baptist Church in 1942 where she remained a faithful member for 75 years. She was reportedly the living member with the longest tenure of membership.
After raising her boys, she joined the JC Penney Co. in Tupelo working in the boy’s department, which was both a job and a labor of love for her. She took great pride in working with moms and their sons to provide quality and affordable clothes. She remained there for 30 years until her retirement.
A service celebrating Reed’s life will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 22, 2017 at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. David Smith officiating. Private burial will follow in Plantersville Cemetery. Visitation will be from Noon-service time Saturday only at Holland-Tupelo Chapel, which is honored to be serving their friends.
Survivors include her two sons; Roy Harris, Jr. and wife, Marsha of Germantown, Tenn. and Ronny Harris and his wife, Mary Helen of Marietta, GA. 4 grandson’s, Jeff (Dawn) Harris , Don (Stacy) Harris, Mark (Alexis) Harris and Lee Harris. 5 great grandchildren; Morgan Harris Miles (Nic), Garrett Harris, Robert Harris, Allan Harris and Turner Harris. her sister in law, Halove Morgan of Plantersville. Several nieces and nephews.
