Nettleton-George W. Mayfield, 60, perished from a house fire at his residence in Nettleton Thursday, April 6, 2017. George was born on November 16, 1956 in Virginia to Ray and Edith Louise Mayfield. He moved to Lee County, Miss. and lived here most all his life except for his time served in the U. S. Marine Corps. He graduated from Tupelo High School in l974, lived in the Saltillo area many years and moved to Nettleton 17 years ago. George proudly served his county in the United States Marine Corps for 13 ½ years honorably discharging as a First Sergeant after being injured. He was a master industrial painter, enjoyed his family and friends and expressing his views on Facebook. George was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Anita Taylor Mayfield on May 7, 20111 and by a sister, Barbara Ann Perkey.
His family and invited friends will gather later in the week for a brief memorial service at the Nettleton Veteran’s Memorial Monument. Holland Funeral Directors/Crematory, Tupelo Chapel is assisting the family. Condolences may be e mailed to firstname.lastname@example.org
George leaves to mourn his death a niece and primary caregiver, Michele Grantham of Nettleton; his nephews, Gabriel Roberson of Nettleton and Joseph Roberson of Tennessee. His great nieces and nephews: Brandon, Christian, Nicole, Gage, Justice and Charla and a host of friends.
